Thoughts Just Energy

I listened to Steve Jobs 2005 commencement speech at Standford after learning of his passing.  He made a statement that has been on my mind a lot since then.

“Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking” ~Steve Jobs (2005-06-21)

Very interesting concept especially when human nature makes it is easier to just follow others then to lead.  Even harder than leading is blazing new paths that at first others mock!

What makes fighting over dogma, opinions on dogma and such VERY funny to me is that thinking and/or thought are just energy passing through the mind.  Like waves, some are big, some are small, some are short lived, some are long-lived but waves are always changing and eventually disappearing.  So if all this energy is temporary, then why place too much stock in any one or group of thoughts?  If we do place stock then we have entered the gate of our own suffering.

When we believe what we think, when we take our thinking to be reality, we will suffer. ~Adyashanti (2011-03-07). Falling into Grace.

Also, why do we seem to believe our own thoughts to be more true than other. When we do believe others thoughts as true we cling to them with such a tight grip that it leads us to a type of death.  A death of creativity and openness.  In the void of those power characteristics the mind is filled with narrow-mindedness.  We can then say goodbye to growth because of the limits that we have placed on ourselves.

As soon as you believe that a label you’ve put on yourself is true, you’ve limited something that is literally limitless, you’ve limited who you are into nothing more than a thought. ~Adyashanti (2011-03-07). Falling into Grace.

Why seek happiness?

Why seek happiness?
When the quest only defines sadness!
Breathe deep and sit,
For this is it!

How to be competitive without hate.

When is being busy silly?

Mindfulness is the aware, balanced acceptance of the present experience. It isn’t more complicated than that. It is opening to or recieving the present moment, pleasant or unpleasant, just as it is, without either clinging to it or rejecting it.
